The goal is simple - if every Interact member can collect $10 in donations for the Relay, that would total over $5000! Some will collect more, and some may not participate, but overall a goal of $5000 is very attainable. Each member will receive an envelope and a letter explaining our fundraiser when you return in January.
4. There are a few Interact T-shirts left at $5 each in blue, orange or green, is sizes small to large. If you ordered a shirt, it's time to pick it up. If you don't have an Interact T shirt already, this is a great (cheap) way to show your club pride!

A single dose of polio vaccine ( enough to protect you from the disease) costs somewhere between 15 cents and $1. .Sock It To Us - we will take part in the October effort to collect new pairs of socks to be distributed in homeless shelters throughout Detroit. Deadline is October 31st. Bring your new sock donations to room B4.
Homecoming Float - we have decorated Mr. Csont's car in past parades with signs, as a crab, and with balloons, but this year we're going to make it into a float! The theme this year is Hollywood, so a 1920's era camera and cameraman will be mounted to the roof, and signs on the side (looking like film strips) will say Lights, Camera, Interact! Listen to the daily announcements for days when we will meet in room B4 to make the flowers needed for the float. It's a small car, so we don't need a ton of flowers. This is the first year that Interact has attempted a float. Those interested in walking with Interact in the parade can wear an Interact shirt, OR dress like a movie character (and KEEP IT CLEAN!).
T-Shirts have arrived! The new shirts (see attached picture) are $10 each and are available in small, medium or large. We will make a second shirt order (larger sizes are available) as soon as we sell through the first order of 30 shirts. A $5 deposit is required to order a shirt. This is the first shirt to recognize our club as the largest Interact Club in the world! The goal (or challenge if you need a reason) is to sell at least 100 shirts, so we can call for an Interact Shirt Day and show the school what pride in community service looks like. Shirts are available in room B4.We also have 10 shirts left from last year at $5 each in blue, green, black or red.
Have you joined? Join our Facebook page and get regular updates.Pick up your Interact ID Card, and get a 50% discount at the homecoming Dance Coat check.
Upcoming Events
Homecoming Dance Coat check - We need 10 volunteers that will work the coat check at the dance (we have 3 so far). the coat check is busy at the beginning and at the end and reeeaaaallly quiet in between. This is an important fund raiser for our club, so we really need ten volunteers to make it happen.
Out of the Darkness is a suicide awareness walk and fundraiser at Lake Erie Metropark on Sunday, October 9th. This event has a late-morning start for those of you who go to the Homecoming dance the night before. we have 8 volunteers to make an APHS team so far. If you would like more information before volunteering, read the informational website at http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.eventDetails&eventID=1463
Books for Books Sale - in mid October, we will host a used book sale to raise funds for new books in our Media Center. This is a chance to clear out any books that you have read and now have collecting dust in your home. If you donate books to the sale, you will get a ticket that is good for one book at the sale. All money raised at the book sale will give Mrs. McKinzie the opportunity to fill some shelves with new titles.
When in doubt, check the Allen Park Interact Facebook page for the latest information.

Treasurer's report: $2558.62
$1500 will go to Haitian well project
$947 will go to Relay for Life ($254 in checks have already been turned in)
This will leave $365 in our account Agenda
1) Guest Speaker from the Class of 1964
The Class of '64 is sponsoring a magic show in the auditorium in March and requested our help to sell tickets at the elementary schools. We will also run a concession stand at the event, with concession profits going to our account! If you are interested in helping to run the concession stand project, see a club officer or Mr. Csont.
2) Mr. King and Mrs Keisel requested help for this year's Relay for Life team at the high school. The Relay is in May at Milward-Rotary Park.
3) We are extending the Relay for Life club fundraiser through March. The amount of money collected in January ($947) was far short of our goal. Relay for Life is an extremely important program at APHS, which will become very clear as we get closer to the month of May. What makes our effort so important is that this year (unfortunately) the Relay takes place on the same day as the Senior Prom, which could have a negative impact on the number of people attending. Help us collect donations that will be used to end cancer in your lifetime.
4) Reminders - Lindemann's dance is this Friday evening. Double check the sign-up sheet. We still have room for helpers (even if the sheet is full).
5) The Middle School dance is next week. We have a full list of volunteers.
6) We will soon be videotaping interviews with members for a new presentation on our club, which will be shown at the Rotary International convention. See Mr. Csont if you would like to participate.
7) There are approximately 12 Interact T-shirts left to purchase. (Red, pink, blue, green or black) at $15 each. Money from the shirts goes toward club projects.
8) Club surveys that have been returned will soon be tabulated. Results of your responses will be posted in March. Thank you for giving us your opinion9 on improving our club!
9) On two occasions this year, members have volunteered for events, and then not shown up. This is an unacceptable practice. Anyone who fails to follow through on their obligations will be placed on club probation (1st offense) and then removed from the club roster (2nd offense). The people that we help count on us - if you sign up, please show up. Meeting adjourned at 3:15pm
February 2, 2011

January 5, 2011
Meeting began at 2:47pm
Officers present: Conn, Samuels, Bacchetti, Wilson
Members present: 58
Treasurer's Report: $1400 ( not including 2 deposits that have yet to be officially logged in)
Agenda
Five prizes were awarded to people who joined the PTSA during our December membership drive on behalf of the PTSA. Prizes awarded were an APHS sports pass, 2 tickets to the 2011 Homecoming dance, a $10 gift card to the school store, a one week "1st in line" pass to the cafeteria, and a home foot bath party for 4.
If there are still any unsold water bottles from the Haiti project, please return them to Mr. Csont. We need to get a final count before presenting the Rotary Club with a check for their orphanage project.
The elementary school art teachers are starting an after school art club at Arno, and need 2-3 members to work with them as helpers. 4 members voiced an interest, but any interested parties should see Mr. Csont to see if there is still a need for help.
Every member should have received an envelope in their second hour on Tuesday, In it, you should have found a letter explaining our 2011 fundraising campaign for Relay for Life. Last year we raised over $2000 to kick off the high school's Relay effort. 500+ members could make our donation substantially larger this year! Do your best to raise funds for this worthy Cancer Society program. Deadline for turning in your collections is January 31st.
500 members should have also found a survey to fill out on a range of topics concerning the club. When you have completed the survey, please drop it in the Interact suggestion box, which is loacted on the counter just inside the LGI room (Mr. Csont's room). SENIORS - we know some of the questions relate to next year, but we still value your input on many of the other areas. The requested deadline for returning your survey is this Friday. Officers will tabulate the survey results, and report out on the findings at a meeting in February.
There will be a Krispy Kreme sale later this month (on a Friday). A volunteer sheet will be posted next week if you care to help sell the donuts before school and during lunches.
Please try and check your email account at least once a week for any Interact updates. We know that many of you don't hear our P.A.announcements in the morning, and this (currently) is the besy way to get the information to you.
January is the last month for many members to keep their membership in the club. If you haven't participated in any events this year, your time is getting short! In order to maintain your membership, you must participate in one event each semester.
You can still: 1) raise donations for Relay for Life 2) complete and return your club survey 3) attend the January 19th club meeting after school 4) sell Krispy Kreme donuts 5) volunteer for an event that hasn't been scheduled yet (good luck on that one!) 6) or purchase a $10 water bottle for the Haitian orphange project (the bottles haven't left the building yet, BUT they will before the month is finished Even if you have your service time covered for the first semester, your friends might not be as lucky. Please share this information with your friends and help them keep their membership!

We have $ 67 for the UNICEF Trick or Treat fund from Halloween. There are several people who need to turn in their money, so we can send in the check to the U.N.
We still have room for volunteers for the Fish and Loaves project. You would restock food on the shelves and put out toys and stuffed animals on the shelves as well for families that use the community pantry services. The date for this event is Friday, November 26 starting at 10am until noon.
There is a collection box in the LGI for gently used stuffed animals, puzzles and games that will be donated to Fish and Loaves. If you want to clean out your closets and pass along parts of your childhood, this is your chance.

This email takes the place of the 10/13 cancelled meeting. There is a great deal of information in this message, so take your time as you read to make sure you get all of the important details.
The Middle school dance is next Friday (10/22) and our volunteer Chaperones should arrive before 3pm. Our first crew of volunteers are: Dash Fejza, Shaun Cyster, Anthony Carbonaro, Andrew Orman, Bobby Webb, Tianna Gorecki, Lauren Bizon, Emma Lazarski, Rachel Sutherland, Sam Knapp, Erica Cora and Courtney Williams. The 3 remaining dances already have volunteers scheduled. If you signed up to chaperone these dances, stop by the LGI and check the dance schedule posted on the wall above the volunteer counter.
There are approximately 8 spaces left for volunteers to work at the Allen Park Public Library's Haunted Library party for young readers. Your role would be to hand out little prizes or candy, and help with crafts. The staff asks that if you want to wear a costume, please don't wear anything that will scare the little ones!
Water Bottle sales have stalled, so our next move is to have a table during lunches, AND send an email to the entire district to broaden our sales zone. We need a few people who are willing to handle delivery of any bottle requests to the other buildings. We have some members who have taken bottles to sell outside of school. This is an option for any member willing to take on the sales project. REMEMBER you are responsible for the cash value of any bottles you take to sell. This is a charity project and ALL of the money will go toward the freshwater well project at the orphanage in Haiti. Bottles come with a gift tag, explaining the project, and several staff members are going to buy them as stocking stuffers. What are you waiting for? Get involved with this project!
We have 40 people signed on to work at the Park Avenue Pumpkin Patch on Halloween, and we have a request for 40 more! Dress warm or dress up in a costume and help out at an event that draws thousands of kids every year. The event runs from 5 until 8pm. We have enough volunteers to sell Krispy Kreme donuts on Friday, October 29th before school and during lunches. We already have 12 dozen donuts sold to Baker College, who ALWAYS come through for us on this event. Donuts are $1 each, and the profits go straight into our club account for service projects. Save room for a donut on the 29th!
We have Trick or Treat boxes for UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Education fund) and we need members to collect change on Halloween for this project. We need one or two members to coordinate this project by getting trick or treating members to collect on Halloween night, put boxes in each classroom (or have specific days to have room collections) and ask for spare change during lunches next week. Interested parties need to see me ASAP!
We have 5 2009-10 shirts left at $2 each, and 12 baseball and 13 knit hats left at $3 each. It's getting ccccold people - you need to keep your head warm.
The first batch of 2010-11 shirts will arrive early next week. We will start a second order of shirts when the first batch arrives.
Those members that signed on to be Study Buddies at the elementary schools should stop by and see me to get your study buddy time sheets, and the name of the teacher that you'll work with. This is a program that gives you the opportunity to help a struggling student that will really appreciate your effort.
We have 9 people signed on to work at the Michael Caruso presentation in Southgate on November 18th. You will work as greeters, ticket takers and ushers, and then stay on to watch the program. This event costs$10 for you to participate, and the money goes to the World Polio Fund to end polio as a disease worldwide. Interact members pay $10, but everyone else has to pay $45 (yes he's THAT GOOD a speaker). Stop by the LGI to sign on for the crew.
The PTSA Holiday Fever is Saturday November 6th. We need volunteers to stay after school on the 5th to set up tables in the gym (4-5pm) , and a crew of volunteers to help on Saturday morning to help the craft people to bring their merchandise into the building and set up (6:45am -9am), AND a crew to help at the end to take down tables and clean up (2:45-4:30). Any member who is 18 can volunteer to sell raffle tickets during the show (8:45am-2pm) Interested?? Stop by the LGI and sign up.
That is all (and that is plenty!) Make it a habit to stop by the LGI and check the project table for the latest events.
Interact Meeting 9/29/10
Attendance:
Officers: Conn, Samuels,Bacchetti, Sutherland (Wilson excused - tennis match)
Members present: 110 (the room was packed)
Treasurer's report: Current balance $750.67
$125 spent on parade balloons for children
$167 income from coat check at Homecoming
Sign up to be a Study Buddy. One teacher at Bennie asked for help after school for a few of her 4th graders, so we will see if more teachers at all of the elementary schools might like some after school tutoring help two days a week.
Sign up for chaperones for the 10/22 Middle School dance is full (and then some!)
Well known motivational speaker Michael Caruso will give a presentation at Davidson Middle School (Southgate - across from the MJR Theater) in November. We have been asked to provide volunteers to take tickets and usher for the event. This is the twist - you have to buy a $10 ticket to work the event. Once you are through seating people, you get to watch the presentation as well. Ticket price for everyone other than Interact is $45. The proceeds from this event go to the World Polio Fund, which will ensure that every child in the world will be inoculated against polio. Sign up in the LGI to work this event.
Sign up to pass out candy at the Park Avenue Pumpkin Patch on Halloween night. This event is big enough that everyone could work!
The first order of Interact T-shirts will go to the printer this Friday. Shirts are $15 each, and come in pink, red, blue, green or black. Sizes run from small to 3XL (5XL in black).
**We are turning up the heat on our $10 water bottle sale. Remember that 100% of the money goes to digging the freshwater well at the orphanage in Salines-Mayette, Haiti. Our deadline/goal date to have all 500 bottles sold is two weeks - October 13th. If every member sells one bottle (and some people have already sold several) we will meet this goal. Change the life of an orphan for the better, and sell one bottle to dig that well!
There are still a plethora (look it up) of membership cards that haven't been picked up. Stop by the LGI and get your card.
Meeting adjourned at 3pm.

Treasurer's Report: $527 in our account. At the Street Fair, we sold $700 of Alumni bumper stickers. $200 went back into our account to cover printing costs, and $500 went toward the new marquee in front of the school.
Sign up sheets for all upcoming events are located on the table just inside the door to Mr. Csont's room (the LGI). Stop by and see what events are coming up. We want ALL members to participate this year (last year was 81% participation). Try to participate in one event each semester, at least
. We have purchased 150 helium balloons ($150) from the Creative Inspirations program. The balloons will be handed out by our members who walk in the parade on Friday to children along the parade route.
We are selling stainless steel water bottles for $10 each. The proceeds will be used to dig a freshwater well for an orphanage in Haiti. A new high school is being built next to the orphanage, and both will be able to use the well. 100% of the money from the water bottle sale goes toward the well! We have 500 bottles to sell (OK, 499 - thanks Mr. Darga for buying the first one!) and we have 510 members. Can you sell (or buy) one bottle? The bottles are in Mr. Csont's room.
In October, we will raise money to kick off the Relay for Life effort at the high school. Each member will receive an envelope and be asked to get 25 $1 donations. If the entire club participates (again510 members), that would be over $12,500! Plan now to be a part of the effort that ends cancer in our lifetime.
In case you didn't catch it in the last two paragraphs, we now have 510 members! That is a scary big number, and it means that we have a student body at APHS that understands the importance of helping others. We know that everyone has a million things to do, and that's why we ask that you help when you can, but volunteer at least once each semester.Last year, we participated in 65 different events with 100 fewer members. Let's make this year even better for our community!
Sometime soon, but after the madness that is Homecoming, we will gather our members together on the football field for a club photo. Mr. Darga will take a picture of our "army", which will be sent to the Rotary Club (our parent organization), and then to the Rotarian Magazine, which is distributed around the world.
Mrs. Gladd in the counseling office is looking for people interested in being a tutor for Freshman. If you have good grades in your classes, and would like to become a tutor, please see Mr. Csont for an application form. Seniors (depending upon how many apply) may be eleigible for paid tutoring positions. Juniors and Sophomores that participate will receive Interact service hours, and improve their chances for the paying positions the following year.

Interact will have a Relay for Life Team this year! Our donation total will be added to the high school total. Why the separate team? The American Cancer Society needs to show community growth each year for their events, and involve people that might be new to the Relay format, so here we go! Recent AP grad Dan Little will also sponsor a new team of Interact alumni. We need two individuals to act as Co-Captains for our team. You would make sure that any donations collected by members are properly accounted for. Anyone who wishes to spend the night at the Relay must raise at least $60 in donations. Let's do our part to raise funds that will finally find a cure for cancer! Our club goal is $4000.00.
There are MANY events posted on the Interact Board looking for volunteers. Stop by and sign up for those events that appeal to you.
After reviewing several other Interact Club websites, you will receive 1 service hour for the purchase of an Interact shirt or hat (which are $7 each). This is possible because the shirt and hat profits go toward our community projects. It would be nice to have a large number of Interact shirts and hats being worn at Spring events, especially the Relay.
Welcome to our newest club members Jackie Rodriguez and Shelby Varna. This puts our membership at 413 - the largest Interact Club . . .period! Do your part to support our club and get involved in community service. Next club meeting is Wednesday, March 31st.
